SQUARE IMAGEThe 2021-2022 Musical Theater Ensemble
Limited to 25 Students

The musical play Titanic examines the causes, the conditions and the characters involved in this tragic and ever-fascinating historical event. Epic and majestic – with moments of heartbreaking intimacy – Titanic captures the triumph and tragedy of the hopeful passengers on the ill-fated Ship of Dreams. Join the cast of TITANIC and the first Musical Theater Ensemble program at STAGES!

The Musical Theater Ensemble is a NEW two-semester program, meeting on Wednesdays from 4:00PM-5:30PM, beginning on September 15, 2021; and, adding Mondays from 4:00PM-5:30PM on January 3, 2022.

VERY IMPORTANT: The final rehearsals and performances will take place Monday April 11 through Saturday April 16, 2022. This is the week leading into the April School Vacation Week. All students enrolled in the Musical Theater Ensemble MUST be able to be fully present from the 11th through the 16th, which may impact travel plans for families planning to spend the vacation week away from home – Musical Theater Ensemble students will not be able to travel until Sunday, April 17, 2022; and, while we will not perform on that date, it should be noted it is the Easter holiday. Families celebrating this holiday will also need to facter the TITANIC schedule into any relevant travel plans. Please do not register for the Musical Theater Ensemble if your student cannot be present for the entirety of the final week, including all rehearsals and performances through April 16, 2022.

Additionally, the Ensemble will NOT MEET on the following dates: the week of November 22, 2021 (Thanksgiving Week), the weeks of December 20 & December 27, 2021 (Winter Recess), January 17, 2022 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), the week of February 21, 2022 (February School Vacation Week), the week of April 18, 2022 (April School Vacation Week).

Tuition: $700.00 (installment plan options available)

Please note: We hope and expect to be able to perform this production in our theater next spring for a live in-person audience. We also acknowledge the COVID-19 pandemic is still evolving in ways we may not be able to predict. In the event of a pandemic-related or other disruption that would make in-person rehearsals and performances impossible, this program (inclusive of all Master Classes, rehearsals and production) will transition seamlessly (in whole or in part) to an online format with a digital presentation.

What is it? The STAGES Musical Theater Ensemble is a fun, and empowering musical theater acting and ensemble-building program for students ages 12 and up. It spans both the fall and spring semester, and culminates in a fully-staged presentation of an exciting, ensemble-based Broadway musical. The 2021-22 Production of TITANIC is the inaugural Musical Theater Ensemble program!

What makes the Musical Theater Ensemble different from past Musical Theater productions at STAGES? The season-long program format provides more space and time for students to create a tight-knit performance company. Like the STAGES Shakespeare Ensemble (now in its 13th year) the new Musical Theater Ensemble program accommodates more interaction with the STAGES production team, giving Members a more in-depth stewardship of their production. Under the facilitation and guidance of the Ensemble mentors, students will have more time to reflect on and explore their musical’s themes and characters, and have more agency in casting, direction, and design.

How much music/acting/dance experience is expected of students participating in the Musical Theater Ensemble? All experience levels are welcome — and NO experience is required! Any relevant instruction or training will be provided as part of the production process. All we ask of our Musical Theater Ensemble students is enthusiasm, openness to learning new things, and a desire to work collaboratively for the entire school year with fellow ensemble members and mentors.

Is it possible to participate in the Musical Theater Ensemble and the Shakespeare Ensemble? Yes. It would be possible for one student to participate in both programs if desired. The Musical Theater Ensemble and the Shakespeare Ensemble have different start dates and difference final performance weeks, but meet/rehearse back-to-back on the same day(s) of the week. Families should review the schedule detail for both programs before deciding how to proceed.

“STAGES allowed me to be creative, and to be myself, and for that I’m eternally grateful.”

Hallie Scammell, STAGES Alum

“My time at STAGES gave me a sense of belonging, and presented an entry point for something that I found myself so passionate about. These experiences helped to shape my love of the arts and appreciate the impact that the performing, and later visual, arts could have on my life.”
