Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing con man and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family.
The STAGES Musical Theater Ensemble is a musical theater acting and ensemble-building program for students (ages 12+) culminating in a fully-staged presentation of an exciting, ensemble-based Broadway musical each season. Musical Theater Ensemble students form a tight-knit performance company as they learn and practice the acting, music, and choreography styles required to bring their production to life. As with the other STAGES Ensemble programs, Musical Theater students ultimately work together to discuss, cast, and design their production under the mentorship of STAGES teaching artists.
The Musical Theater Ensemble is a two-semester program, meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00PM-8:00PM, beginning on September 27, 2023 and ending on May 1, 2024. The performances will take place the weekend of May 3, 2024.

ABOUT THE MUSICAL THEATER ENSEMBLE

Frequently Asked Questions!
What makes the Musical Theater Ensemble different from other Musical Theater productions at STAGES? The season-long program Ensemble program format provides more space and time for students to create a tight-knit performance company. Like the STAGES Acting (formerly Shakespeare) Ensemble (now in its 15th year), the Musical Theater Ensemble program accommodates more interaction with the STAGES production team, giving Members a more in-depth stewardship of their production. Under the facilitation and guidance of the Ensemble mentors, students will have more time to reflect on and explore their musical’s themes and characters, and have more agency in casting, direction, and design.
How much music/acting/dance experience is expected of students participating in the Musical Theater Ensemble? All experience levels are welcome — and NO experience is required! Any relevant instruction or training will be provided as part of the production process.
Is it possible to participate in the Musical Theater Ensemble and the Acting (formerly Shakespeare) Ensemble? Yes. It would be possible for one student to participate in both programs if desired. The Musical Theater Ensemble and the Acting Ensemble meet/rehearse on different days of the week, and the spring performance weekends do not overlap. Families should review the schedule detail for both programs before deciding how to proceed.
My student would be a great fit for this program, but is not quite 12 years old yet. Can you make an exception? If a student’s 12th birthday takes place before December 31, 2023, STAGES will consider these requests. We ask that parents/caregivers use their discretion when inquiring about participation for younger students, especially with regards to maturity, general readiness, and ability to work collaboratively with other older students. Registrations for students falling outside of the program age range will need to be handled by STAGES, as our registration system will not permit you to do so on your own.
