SUMMER CAMP – MAINSTAGE ages 10+

A STAGES MAINSTAGE SUMMER CAMP UPDATE

As we work toward the goal of considering the STAGES summer ahead, nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our students, staff members and the greater STAGES community. Our decision-making to date has been informed (and will continue to be informed) by the guidelines and prescriptive requirements put forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the office of Governor Mills. STAGES is also meeting regularly with other summer camp providers, and the leadership of peer theater programs in Maine and across the country, to share resources, and develop new policies, procedures, and best practices for the period of re-opening and recovery ahead.

Over the past several months, we’ve made some difficult decisions about our upcoming programs. In our ongoing effort to balance program quality with (most importantly) health and safety concerns, here are some things to consider as you make your summer camp decisions:

  • Enrollment numbers have been capped (see below for details)
  • There will be no in-person auditions for the summer program. There will be a fun, low-stress, virtual audition before programs begin (details to be sent to registered families soon).
  • There will be schedule modifications. See below for updates, and contact STAGES for more details if desired.
  • There will be no public performances. Please contact STAGES for more information about the final presentation plans for the summer.
  • There will be no in-person singing taking place during the on-site rehearsals. Sadly, singing has been identified as one of the biggest risks of exposure to the novel coronavirus. All music instruction will take place in the virtual STAGES classroom, using some exciting technology that will allow us to sing-together-while-apart!
  • Registered students will need internet access and a device capable of recording sound (phone, laptop, tablet, etc). If you have concerns about technology, please contact STAGES.

While these modifications may feel jarring and restrictive, there are so many things to look forward to. Our staff is particularly excited about learning new skills, working together to safely address new challenges with creativity, and having an opportunity to share support, camaraderie, and friendship during what has been an isolating time for so many young people (and their teachers).

Registered families will be receiving all new guidelines and any updated camp parameters for the STAGES summer program.
We will also update our Covid-19 information page with new updates and resources.

We thank you for your patience at this unprecedented time. Please do not hesitate to contact us any time with questions or concerns.

REFUND POLICY (updated May 8, 2020):
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the STAGES summer no-refund policy has been updated to allow full summer camp refunds in the form of account credits that can be used toward future programs, should families decide not to participate in programs for which they’ve already registered. Please contact hello@stagesacademy.com for more information.

2020 SUMMER MAINSTAGE CAMPS – ages 10+

STAGES offers a safe space for students of all ages and experience levels to be who they truly are while in the process of putting together a big Broadway-style musical theater production.  Our summer camp cast sizes are typically between 20 and 40 students, with a full team of professional artist and support staff to ensure that each program follows our  mission-based philosophy of meeting each student exactly where they’re at.  Our summer program directors are hired first and foremost because they are passionate about nurturing young people.

A registration update for all 4 programs appears below. Clearly, this summer will present unique challenges to the “usual” STAGES format. We will be in touch soon with more details. Please do not hesitate to contact us any time.

“Theater/STAGES was a critical part of my children’s development. Educators talk of the importance of sports and ‘teamwork.’ My non-athletic kids learned that through theater. They both appreciate the importance of expression through the arts….they are better people for it!”

Liz Freeman, STAGES Parent

“Thank you STAGES for helping me make friends. Thank you for helping me come out of my shell. Thank you for providing a safe place for me to explore myself and my art.”

Brooke Papineau, STAGES Alum
