Thank you for thinking of STAGES Youth Theater at this time.
At STAGES Youth Theater, we are proud to be innovators. With your generous support, our groundbreaking, non-competitive model and unique educational programming help build connection, confidence, and community among young people in Southern Maine.
Now, we are harnessing that innovative spirit to meet the demands of the current moment.
Like all people and all organizations everywhere, STAGES Youth Theater has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. We, too, have made programming adjustments, and staffing reductions in an effort to keep our ship on a steady course. And we will continue to do our best to navigate all of the difficult decisions to come.
We grieve for the loss of live theater experiences, in-person gatherings, and “business as usual” – but these are things we cannot control. What we can do, is lean into our mission statement with the kind of renewed purpose made possible by this unanticipated disruption of the basic systems we take for granted every day.
During this unprecedented pandemic experience, young people are especially vulnerable to feelings of uncertainty and fear. We cannot erase the anxiety, frustration and despair so many people of all ages are feeling. But we can continue the most essential part of our organization’s existence by providing a loving, safe, virtual, space for self-discovery.
We did so in the short term, by swiftly adapting most of our winter/spring programs so our homebound students and teaching artists can reconnect with their creativity, and – most importantly – reconnect with each other every week. We’re working safely from home, creating engaging online content and keeping in touch with parents, students, and educators.
We’re also taking a longer view. Behind the scenes, the STAGES team is taking the time to create new programs, develop new original plays, and explore new and more meaningful ways to connect with our community – not just during these at-home times, but for the future when we can joyfully gather in person.
Your contribution of any amount will help sustain STAGES Youth Theater during this pandemic as we continue to entertain, support, and nurture the young artists stuck at home- while building a vision for when we can all meet again. Thank you for your consideration during this challenging time for everyone.
